TOWN AND COUNTRY PLANNING DEPARTMENT PROFILE
The Department of Town and Country Planning exist to plan, manage and promote the harmonious sustainable and cost-effective development of human settlements in accordance with sound environmental and planning principles in collaboration with other public institutions and private agencies. RESPONSIBILITIES
The roles of TCPD in urban development among others includes the following:
Ø formulate plans and standards relating to the use and development of land.
Ø prepare land use plans and proposal to direct the growth and development of settlements.
Ø coordinate the diverse types of physical development activities undertaken by various public institutions as well as agencies.
Ø provide various forms of planning services to both public institutions and private agencies to ensure healthy living and orderly development; and
Ø planning and management of the orderly development of human settlements.
Some of the day to day activities, which the Town Planning office and the municipal assembly deals with includes:
Ø Rezoning of planned land use site.
Ø Receiving and vetting of development applications.
Ø Responding to petition from the public related to planning and development.
Ø Rectification of old plans affected by new major developments.
Ø Advising the public and Municipal Assemblies in matters relating to physical development.
Ø Revision of existing planning schemes.
Ø Inspection of sites and writing of technical reports.
Ø Day to day administration of the planning office.
