Fundación la Iguana is a non governmental non-profit organization legally founded in 2012 in the city of Guayaquil by Andrea Fiallos, a local activist in environmental and forest conservation. As initial project Fundación la Iguana began to develop a book that collects all species of native trees in Guayaquil city and educate people about this issue and the importance of conservation, during the project development and research the lack of trees, especially native species, within urban areas was even more alarming. It is for this reason that with the aim of generating actions that have a direct impact to transform this reality Fundación la Iguana begin the activities of planting native trees working directly and alongside to different entities of society and the general population starting the campaign “Sembrando una Ciudad”.

Until now Fundación la Iguana has planted more than 3,000 native trees and at the moment it's working in the planting of 2,100 native trees in Santa Cruz - Galápagos. All the trees planted by Fundación la Iguana are georeferenced to frequently monitor their status and conditions. Fundación la Iguana goals is to finish the year 2016 with approximately 6,000 trees planted and living in various cities of Ecuador.

Implementation modalities:

We work directly and alongside to different entities of society and the general population to educate people about the conservation, importance and how to  carry out direct actions to protect trees and nature. We invite all parts of society to plant native trees with the correct directions creating a direct link between the comunities and their natural resourses.
